WILLA strives to improve the teaching of English language arts by focusing attention on gender-related
issues in literacy teaching and learning, including the status and image of women and girls, men, and boys and to advise
the profession at large on issues relating to the role and images of women; and to foster the exchange of ideas and
perspectives among people interested in gender issues relating to English. Members of WILLA receive the newsletter
Crosscurrents and the journal WILLA annually. |

NOTEWORTHY NEWS NICHE
October 11, 2008
The long saga of getting the money to Folweni High School is finally over (details in San Antonio): Andrew Mahlaba received $1500 on Aug. 29th and is extremely grateful. Thank you, WILLA board members, friends and family, for your response, and, especially Lynne Alvine and Donna Putt, Lynne's friend, who put us way over our original target of $200 for a second story. (Donna heard Lynne speak about South Africa at a local AAWW meeting).
